I started making my own DIY lip balm years ago after my beloved healthy healthy brand of Chapstick had added soy and rapeseed oil. Yuck! This natural recipe for lip balm is easy to create with just a few ingredients. It is also moisturizing and moisturizing to combat dry lips all year round.
DIY lip balm recipe
The production of your own lip balm at home is simple and much less than buying organic brands in the shop. Tubes lip balm make a great gift item, a stocking stick or a safe game for children. I also keep them at hand when I have owed the working mothers. Hospital air can really dry out skin and lips.
The lip balm uses natural ingredients with which you can also produce dozens of other natural skin and personal care recipes. In my other DIY projects such as lotion and body butter you will find coconut oil, beeswax and cocoa butter.

How to make lip balm
Since lip products are applied right next to the mouth and nose, it is important to me that they have safe, natural ingredients. Especially when my children use them! While I used coconut oil, there are many different carrier oil options. Coconut oil is solid at cooler temperatures and creates a firmer lip balm. It also has some mild SPF properties.
If you want something softer, you can use less beeswax or up to half of the coconut oil with another liquid oil. However, the use of only liquid oil ensures a softer lip balm. Here are a few lip food options:
Castor oil leaves a nice shine on the lips and is a popular ingredient in homemade lip gloss recipes. In this recipe, coconut oil 1 to 1 is not replaced. However, you can replace about 1 teaspoon of coconut oil for a glossy look and a smooth feeling.
Essential oils for lip balm
Aromatherapy is large these days, but not all products use real essential oils on the shelves. While children (and some adults) may love the smell, strawberry bubble chewing gum lip balm is not exactly natural. But not every essential oil is safe to use on the lips.
Certain oils such as cinnamon bark and lemon grass can be really irritating. Especially in more sensitive areas such as the lips. Many essential oils can be diluted on the lips of up to 5%, which corresponds to about 60 drops of essential oil. However, I love using much less.
Here are a few lip -proof options:
There are a couple who smell really delicious who have not made the list. Lime, bergamot and some other oils can lead to a photo sensitivity if too much is used before sunlight. Translation: Think of swelling, redness and lip damage.
Something like lemon can certainly be used with a dilution dilution of 1%, but a safe level can lead to sun damage. You may still not want to use the lemon balm and then go sunbathing for an hour.
For the most part, however, they can mix and adapt their most popular essential oils that are lip -friendly.
Selection of a container
I usually use this lip balm tube for easy use. The repetition of small glasses or doses also work well. I once had a few tiny jam glasses in our room in a hotel and they are also perfect for that.
Lip balm recipe without beeswax
I usually use beeswax pastilles when I made lip balm. They help to harden the lip balm and offer a protective coating on the lips. For various reasons, some people prefer to make a vegan lip balm and to work candelilla wax as a U -boat. It is more difficult than beeswax so that less is needed.
If you have not yet made your own beauty products, I would encourage you to try it! The basic recipe is below, but has fun experimenting with the oils and flavors to maintain the fragrance and taste they like. Mint is my favorite, especially in winter!
Homemade lip balm recipe
Simply make your own homemade chap stick with all natural ingredients.
Yield: 18 Lip balm tube
-
Add a few centimeters of water into a small pan and heat it over medium heat.
-
Place a small, heat -resistant glass (pint size or smaller) in the water and make sure that you don’t get water in the glass. You can also use a double boiler or a glass bowl that sits on a small pot of water.
-
Add cocoa butter, coconut oil and a tablespoon of beeswax to the glass and slowly melt while stirring. Make sure you don’t get water in the glass.
-
When all the ingredients have melted, stir well and switch off the heat. Leave the glass in the water to stay warm.
-
Stir in essential oils.
-
Use a glass drop to fill the lip balm containers such as tubes or lip balm sockets quickly.
-
The mixture settles slightly when it cools down so that after about 2 minutes I hell out the container when you start hardening.
-
Let yourself be hardened for a few hours or up to completely without touching them.
- Shelf life and storage: Hold in a cool, dry place for about 2 years. The optional vitamin -e -öl helps to extend the durability even further.
- This makes a medium -sized lip balm lip balm. If you prefer a firmer version, you can add more beeswax to double the recommended amount. If you prefer a smoother and oily lip balm, you can reduce the amount of beeswax.
