Dry shampoo has become more and more popular over the years and I can see why. A hair care product that makes your look clean when it has not been washed for some time is a great help! On long days with the little ones we are lucky enough to use the bathroom alone, let alone the shower every day …
If you use a product (almost) every day, it is important so that a) work and b) have safe ingredients! But take a look at the label in most of the dry shampoos purchased and you will find ingredients such as isobutan, aluminum and propane … no, thanks!
It is easy to make new ingredients new with just a few simple ingredients that you may already have on hand. You will not only save money because homemade dry shampoo versions are about 95% cheaper, but you will also not put poisonous chemicals on your hair!
How to do your own dry shampoo at home
Set the basic idea of a dry shampoo powder (or a wet “dry” shampoo, see that variation below) adjust an oil-absorbing substance such as baby powder, baking powder, arrow root or corn starch on oily hair. This absorbs excess oil, leaves it clean and helps to look fine hair volumed.
Until the cancer lawsuits entered, baby powder made of talc powder (full of asbestos). Now baby powder is usually made from GMO cornstarch. None of them are great options in my book.
Since I have blond hair, I only use arrow root powder and a few drops of essential oils. If you have light hair with these two natural ingredients, you work wonders. Those with darker hair, such as brown hair or dark brown hair, can mix some cocoa powder for a darker color. You can even use cocoa powder in homemade eyeshadow.
Those with really dark, black hair may want to try to add an activated charcoal to darken the mixture. The exact amount you use depends on your hair color.
Bonus: Dry shampoo is also very helpful if you style hair and have to hold it. Dirty hair lasts better than clean hair, but it doesn’t have to look dirty! In fact, I will wore natural hair for an upcoming wedding, which has not been washed for three days (you are welcome for this picture!)
Essential oils for more hair advantages
Essential oils add more than just a delicious fragrance! They also have strong health benefits. To help with hair growth, add some essential rosemary and Cedarwood oil. They try tea tree and peppermint for dandruff.
Here are the official “recipes” that can be adapted to your hair type:
DIY Dry Shampoo
In a few minutes, make non -toxic dry shampoo to absorb natural oils and shorten the hair wash. Ideal for blondes, brunette or even darker hair!
Yield: 2 Ounce
-
Make -up brush
-
4-tunes glass
-
Place the arrow root or the arrow root and the cocoa powder in a small glass. Use 4 tablespoons of arrow root for light hair and only 2 tablespoons for dark hair.
-
Add the essential oil and mix it to combine.
-
Apply a make-up brush to the roots or oily parts of your hair. The brush is optional, but it eliminates the need to comb so much and is better for styled hair. If you don’t use the brush, comb the powder through your hair and style as usual.
To prepare a spray that works as a dry shampoo, add 1 cup of warm, distilled water and ¼ cup of vodka, rub alcohol or witchhazelhell. Spray on roots or greasy hair parts, let them dry and styles as usual. Shake before each use.
Do you prefer a spray version? Add some water and alcohol into the above recipe as an alternative to Aerosol dry shampoos. Like: How:
Wet “dry” shampoo option
A shampoo with wet dry shampoo uses the same concept, but brings the oil -absorbing substance to a rapidly evaporating liquid like vodka or alcohol.
What to do: mix all the ingredients in a small spray bottle and shake well. Shake before each use and spray on roots or oily hair parts. Leave dry and style as usual.
Bonus tips
- You can use Arrowroot or corn starch as a finishing powder for homemade make-up or as an oil-absorbing powder on the skin. I hold a masong glass with a arrow root on my counter and use it as dry shampoo on my hair and use my make -up.
- If you have dark hair but do not want to use cocoa powder, simply use a simple arrow root and apply before going to bed the night before or at least 2 hours in advance. With some time to absorb, you won’t get the fake-gray-look-like look!
