If you still use the lotion bought in the shop, there are super simple natural alternatives that are fun! This DIY lotion recipe has three basic ingredients and only takes ten minutes to whip together.
The basic recipe is an ultra-moisturizing water-free version that takes years without preservatives. While Lotion is technically a wording of skin care ingredients on a water and oil basis, this is based on an oil basis. It feels more like a body butter and is ideal for dry skin.
Homemade lotion
I found years ago that I could use natural ingredients to produce my own skin care products, and since then I haven’t looked back! From homemade lip balm to punch butter, I love to make my own. Lotion -Bars were one of the first things I did and I also branched to other lotions. This version does not use refined coconut oil, almond oil and shea butter to nourish the skin deep.
Most lotions use emulsifying wax to mix distilled water and carrier oils together. It can be difficult to do at home. In addition, preservatives don’t have to be bad! This DIY lotion skipped this problem by eliminating the water. You can further extend the durability by using vitamin E. This antioxidant helps oil not to become so fast.
Selection of a carrier oil
I use sweet almond oil for the carrier oil because it is a center of the street oil. It’s not as heavy as coconut oil, but it is more moisturizing than something like grape oil. You could replace it with the oil carrier oil that you prefer. Jojoba, olive oil or avocado oil are also good options.
This lotion is ultra-moisturizing and greasy than water-based lotions, so you don’t have to use that much. It also has a longer shelf life than some homemade lotion recipes. All ingredients are already stable and no water is added.
Custom lotion
As soon as you master the basic recipe, you enjoy adapting your lotion to your skin type, skin diseases and the desired fragrance!
There are endless variations, but some of my favorites are:
- Babylotion – Infise the oil with dried calendula and chamomile before making the lotion.
- Cooling muscle removal – Add peppermint, winter green and ginger for aching muscles.
- Anti-aging facial lotion – Use argan oil and add essential oils from lavender and patchouli.
- Lavender and vanilla lotion – Add a few drops of lavender and a little natural vanilla extract.
Essential oil security
How many drops of essential oils should you add to your DIY lotion? It depends on the essential oil and its preference. If you add the optional shea butter, 45 drops are diluted of 1%. A 2% dilution is generally considered safe for skin care products such as Lotion.
If you like a really strong fragrance, you can double the amount (to 2%). Or if you prefer a lighter fragrance or have more sensitive skin, you can cut the amount into two halves (or even less!). I avoid using essential oils for small, especially babies.
Certain oils such as winter green, cinnamon and lemon grass are harder and must be used in smaller quantities. Others, such as grapefruit and lime, are phototoxic. Some of my preferred skin -friendly essential oils include:
Don’t you want to make it?
If you want a healthy lotion but do not want to create or do not have the ingredients, there are some good options. These lotions have clean ingredients and help to supply thirsty skin with moisture:
Homemade DIY lotion recipe
Make a smooth, luxurious lotion with almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax and optional essential oils at home.
Yield: 9 Ounce
-
Combine almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax and shea or cocoa butter in a double boiler. Or use a glass bowl on a smoldering water pan.
-
Stir occasionally when the ingredients melt.
-
As soon as the ingredients have melted completely, add the vitamin -e oil and all essential oils or vanilla.
-
Pour into a glass or can for storage and let it cool to room temperature. Small mason glasses work perfectly for this. This will not pump well in a lotion pump!
- A little goes a long way! This lotion is incredibly nutritious and ideal for diaper rash, eczema and to prevent stretch marks.
- Store in a cool, dry place for up to 1-2 years.
